Overview
Halden roasts small lots of single-origin coffee in a converted boathouse in Bergen. Their old template shop could not keep up with a menu that changes every few weeks, and their most loyal customers were reordering by email because the store had no subscriptions.
The challenge
Every new coffee needed its own page, stock levels and brewing notes within hours of roasting, without a developer on call. Subscribers had to be able to change their grind, frequency or coffee themselves, and the shop had to stay fast on phones in a busy cafe queue.
The approach
I built a headless storefront with Next.js on top of Shopify, with a custom subscription flow on Stripe Billing and a simple CMS form that turns a roast profile into a finished product page. Pages are statically generated and refreshed the moment stock changes, and the whole checkout runs on the roastery's own domain.
Outcome
The result
The new shop launched in March 2026. A new coffee now goes from roaster to live product page in under ten minutes, and subscriptions have become the roastery's largest source of online revenue.

We used to dread adding a new coffee to the site. Now our team does it between roasts, and our subscribers manage everything themselves.
