Overview

After building the same accessible form patterns on project after project, I packaged them into Quietform: a small React library for forms that announce their errors properly, keep focus where people expect it and keep working without JavaScript wherever possible.

The challenge

Most form libraries leave accessibility to the developer, so errors are often shown on screen but never announced, and focus jumps around unpredictably. Quietform had to fix that while staying tiny, fully typed and easy to drop into an existing project.

The approach

The library wraps native form elements instead of replacing them, links every error message to its field, moves focus to the first problem on submit and announces it to screen readers. It ships fully typed, tree-shakes down to under four kilobytes and is tested against real screen readers before every release.

Outcome

The result

Quietform is used in production by agencies and product teams across Europe, and its patterns now power the forms on every site I build.

Quietform fixed accessibility problems in our forms that three separate audits had flagged. It took one afternoon to adopt.
